Default MDawg's friend not doing too well in Vegas

    I mentioned here
    New Year's Vegas trip
my friend I met in Vegas early last year. She's from the mid-west and plays a lot of Baccarat. She is by no means rich, but she plays pretty hard given her bankroll, probably - too hard actually. She rolls into town with an average $5000. and plays at the $100. Baccarat tables.

Actually, with that bankroll she should probably be playing $25. tables, and I have told her so, but she prefers the big tables where one may touch the cards.

She has almost invariably lost. The one trip she won at, was the trip she met me at, and probably the only reason she won that time is that I forced her to leave the table once she got ahead. Her plane was leaving in a few hours and she wanted to keep playing for another hour, but I told her to get going. So, that trip she actually left with a couple thousand in her pocket. Come to think of it though, I'm not sure what she started with so for all I know she left three thousand behind but in any case she left with something versus nothing which is what she usually leaves with.

She has a terrible Vegas record. When I met her, she has lost every single trip, in the double digits.

During my October 2019, trip, she was losing as usual, but I happened to be there at the same time and had her sit at the Baccarat tables with me. Both times, both sessions with me, she won. After the second session, I placed her at a table with a young kid I have gotten to know in Vegas, who plays Baccarat daily. Not that I think this kid is any kind of special player, but on that evening they played together and she won $20,000. She ended up dumping $6000. of it the next day, on her own, due to her typical compulsive play, but went home with $14,000. Not bad!

The next trip she and I were in Vegas during some overlapping days, but she decided not to come to the casinos where I was playing, and played instead with the local kid, and she lost $8300.

She's right now back in Vegas, played the first night, and lost $4200. (she brought only $6800. with her, which means her bankroll is down to $2600. now). I've advised her to take a couple of days off, have fun, enjoy herself in Vegas, then go back, after the break, to just the $25. tables and just play for fun.

She obviously has no knack for gambling. She keeps playing until she has lost it all, each session, playing very late into the night when she is tired. As well, she hesitates, "chickens out" as she puts it, when the requisite big bet is called for.

Not everyone is cut out for gambling. You have to know, feel, when to press into the clutch. And when to ease back or leave the table entirely, when it's not happening.

Beautiful girl, nice girl, but not destined for winning at the casinos.

On her last night in Vegas, with $2500. left. Just a hunny less than what she had a few days ago, no great loss really. Her plane leaves in a few hours.

I advised her to just leave, not play, unless she is willing to lose it all. Last minute play usually results in all or nothing.

She extended her stay. More to be revealed!

It's all over, for the...unknown soldier.

    She lost big. (For her.)

Actually...she ended up losing ten large this trip. She had brought 6800 with her, lost that, pulled another 3000 or so from a credit card, got that up to 5000, then lost it all.

Which means, other than the over dozen or so losing trips prior, she had only the one winning trip when she was with me, winning 14,000, then lost 8300 the next trip, and now 10,000, making any win she had eclipsed by further losses. Very sad.

She decided to remain in Vegas, for at least as long as her comps will last.

"Might as well get something for free." (Swingers)

I just hope she doesn't try to access more funds somehow. She claims she has no more to access, but you never know.

She did do a credit card advance for another three grand, actually won three grand off that (minus whatever it cost her to get the funds). So her tally for this last trip was minus -7000. Sadly, this short term win at the end might encourage her to play again in the future. I am advising her to quit gambling entirely - some people just aren't cut out for it. The moment you find yourself standing in line at the casino cage seeking a credit card cash advance, you might as well accept that you are a compulsive gambler. Time to quit!

Well what happens when you advise a compulsive gambler to stop gambling? She doesn't want to hear it!

Oh well, she'll figure it out for herself, the hard way.

Actually she has come around and told me that I am right, but...she thinks if she modifies her play she'll be able to win at Baccarat. Unfortunately, she just doesn't have what it takes to win at ANY gambling, as she plays compulsively.

I'm texting her today, out of the blue she says, Guess what? I'm in Vegas now...all this week at Wynn. Wow, talk about compulsive. She's been telling me all month that she will not be returning to Vegas for a long time, and instead she heads there straight away. Unfortunately, I predict more loss for her. No special skills, no discipline, and an inadequate bankroll.

Sadly, but predictably, she lost it all. Came with five grand, lost that within a couple days. She pulled another three grand (I assume out of a credit card, a terrible idea), and lost a thousand of that last night. Then this morning she messaged me that she lost almost all of that too to make it a 7500 loss for her this trip.

On top of that her friend, a local LV resident (he's compulsive too, plays far too much not disciplined no money management to speak of) lost almost his entire bankroll and is down to a mere two grand left. He has no job, and moved to Henderson (suburb of greater LV) thinking he could be a professional gambler. Did not work out for him!
