Recently in France, two armed robbers tried to rob a McDonald's, unaware that an elite, highly armed paramilitary group was dining in the restaurant at the same time. They entered and even fired a shotgun into the air.

Armed robbers thwarted trying to hold up McDonalds where 11 special forces officers happened to be eating dinner

Of course in the U.S. this would have resulted in a massive shootout with dead robbers and civilians, but as the local prosecutor said, “During the hold-up, the gendarmes didn’t do anything. It was out of the question to use their weapons, as this would have created difficulties and could have placed many people’s lives in danger.”

And then after the robbers made their getaway, the gendarmes simply captured one of them when he tripped, and only after the second one disobeyed orders to put down his gun which he was pointing at the gendarmes did they fire a single disabling shot to the robber's abdomen, and took him into custody, injured but not dead. The robber survived.

"The GIGN officers yelled at him to stop and fired warning shots to deter him, she said. But when he took aim again, they responded with a 'neutralization shot' to his abdomen."

At best, both robbers would have ended up dead in the U.S. and certainly the one who pointed his gun at the police would have been filled with bullets. In the U.S. in any situation where there is any conflict the cops empty their automatics or revolvers, no "disabling" shots.

In fact, in the U.S. warning shots are never fired. Just shoot to kill. Shoot to kill.

This sort of shoot happy attitude is what is resulting in the deaths of civilians such as Philando Castille of Minnesota, who was shot dead at a routine traffic stop, or Alton Sterling, shot dead while pinned to the ground and of no danger to anyone. A friend of ours was shot dead by the police while running through a neighborhood naked, crazy under the influence of drugs, when he jumped through a residential plate glass window. How could he have been a danger to anyone, he was obviously not armed?
