A friend wrote to me telling me he was drinking some Hennessey and Coke.

That's a 200+ year old cognac with a wax sealed stopper. And a designer, as a pompous friend of mine would put it, very old, very rare Erte cognac. And of course Louis XIII - empty, from Tahoe, there's a story behind that bottle.

I had a full bottle of Louis XIII but an ex-girlfriend of mine shattered it on the marble foyer of our house while picking up a box it was in inattentively. When this happened an uncle of mine who was nearby when he heard that it was a $1300 bottle wanted to scoop some off the ground and drink it, crystal shards be damned.

This same uncle and my dad once downed a $300 bottle of Hennessy XO of mine. Later my uncle commented that if he had known it was a $300 bottle he would have paused to taste it.

I assume your Hennessy is only VS but still no purist would drink it diluted with Coke.
