My black friend and I were playing blackjack on a train - we were going to a party in L.A. He did something that is not allowed by the rules, so I pretty much shouted NO NO NO NEGRO! YOU CAN'T DO THAT! and there were some black folk sitting near by us (not right next to, but close by) who looked up, all concerned.

Later my friend told me that he had just smiled at them. He said to me, "If I hadn't looked over and smiled, we WOULDA HAD A PROBLEM!"

Because obviously those black folk didn't appreciate too much that a white boy was calling a black, a NEGRO! and shouting at him.

But he and I used to talk like that all the time to each other. It was nigger this and nigger that. Our most common expression was, "Nigger, you ain't shit."
