In 2016, Clinton ended with 230 electoral votes / Trump with 306. It takes 270 to win.

These were the three key states, that swung the election. PA, MI and WI. If their 46 electoral votes had gone to Clinton, Clinton would have won the election. These three states are not traditionally red, in fact, all three were BLUE in 1992 - 2012. The SUM TOTAL of votes between all three of these states that went to Trump, versus Clinton, were 77,744. These 77,744 votes decided the election - decided the electoral college.

This is not even to mention the fact that Clinton ended the election with 2,864,974 more votes than Trump. But less than 80K of the total votes cast decided the election.
